At 11.36 of August 14 2018 the Morandi Bridge collapsed over an industrial area killing 43.
Only by a small chance the bridge didn't destroy a residential area. The death toll would have been much higher.
The red zone has now been closed because it is feared that the rest of the bridge may collapse, but for three days the displaced people that once lived in the houses under the bridge were able to return to their flats and take what they could of their belongings.
Clothes, pictures, pets and everything valuable.
Looters were reported in the area the same night the accident happened but fortunately the security belt imposed by firefighters and police was very effective.
